Challange
Overcoming Learner Fatigue and High Churn in Self-Paced Coding Programs.
In our initial user research, we discovered that aspiring developers were abandoning their coursework at an alarming rate due to cognitive overload and a lack of clear progress visibility. Students frequently felt isolated when encountering complex topics—like implementing linked list data structures—and the absence of a unified view of their daily achievements made it difficult to sustain long-term motivation. This lack of immediate feedback and support directly impacted our monthly active user retention and overall course completion metrics, highlighting a critical need for a more engaging, centralized home base for our learners.
Solution
A Clean, Card-Based Dashboard Focused on Visibility and Unblocking Students.
To solve this, I led the cross-functional team in developing a unified, gamified learning hub that prioritizes clarity and immediate technical support. We utilized a clean, card-based layout to surface key performance indicators like overall course progress, total quiz points, and daily coding challenges right at login, giving students an instant snapshot of their momentum. Crucially, to reduce the time students spent stuck on complex bugs, we integrated a highly visible "Connect with a Code Mentor" feature directly into the primary viewport, ensuring that personalized debugging support and code reviews were always seamlessly accessible.

impact
Significant Growth in Course Completions and Mentorship Utilization.
The rollout of this redesigned dashboard fundamentally transformed how our students interacted with the curriculum, driving a 30% increase in daily active users (DAU) and a 24% boost in overall course completion rates within the first quarter of launch. Furthermore, removing the friction to ask for help resulted in a 45% increase in scheduled mentoring sessions, proving that timely, on-demand support paired with clear, visual progress tracking is the definitive key to driving successful learning outcomes and strong product stickiness in technical education.
